As I'm carrying him up the stairs for bed, his bristly newly-cut hair rubbing my cheek and his sweet little chin pressing into my shoulder:
John: Mommy, I just don't want to grow any bigger.
Me: Why?
John: I just don't.
Me: But why don't you want to grow anymore?
John: Because for my birthday I don't want to get just watches and makeup and stuff. . . . Mommy, when I'm 44, and I have my birthday, I am going to get a Transformer.
I'll have to remember that birthday wish. ;-)
